The Journey:
The journey of becoming an Anusara yoga teacher is one of transformation and self-discovery. It requires a dedicated practice, ongoing studentship, and a willingness to open to something greater. This course is for those who have dedicated themselves to the practice of Anusara yoga and aspire to support others to step into their own greatness. Through the supportive community environment, you will embody the practice of yoga so that your teaching is charged with spiritual energy, confidence, and a genuine love and compassion for yourself and others. You will open your heart, develop a more vibrant body, and sharpen your mind, so that you are more able to teach the essence of yoga which is love.

Teacher Certification Requirements:
Once you have demonstrated a certain degree of integration of the Anusara principles, language, and other teaching methodologies, you will be certified. These high standards are what make Anusara Yoga the leading yoga system in the country. Although most students graduate from my training shortly after the end of the third module, some students will need more time.
You will be updated and notified in each module as to how you're doing and what's needed to reach the certification standard. In my training, I prioritze studentship and learning, rather than getting a quick certification. Certification is based, not only on whether you passed the tests and completed all of your homework, but on the performance and demonstration of your teaching skills. You will be totally supported and loved throughout this training period to integrate the teaching principles to the best of your ability. Below are the criteria needed for certification:
To receive certification in this training you must:
- Demonstrate the teaching skills, knowledge, and basic understanding of the philosophy and principles of Anusara Yoga with clarity and confidence.
- Perform asanas from the asana list in the YTT manual with precision, presence, and grace. Although you may not be able to perform all of the asanas listed in the manual, you need to be able to perform the following poses as basic bench marks of integration of the principles of alignment. (Exceptions will be made for those working with injuries or special conditions.)
- Adho Mukha Vriksasana (Handstand) kick up at the wall on your own
- Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance) kick up at the wall with a block on your own
- Sirsasana (Headstand) at the wall or free standing on your own
- Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand) at the wall or free standing with props or Ardha
Sarvangasana with a block away from the wall
- Urdhva Dhanurasana (Upward Bow) palms on the floor, with straight elbows
- Pass the written tests with a score of 90% or higher. A take home test will be given after modules 2 and 3.
- Successfully complete all homework and reading assignments.
- Sign the Code of Ethics Agreement.
- Pay all fees and outstanding balances.
In addition, full attendence, participation, and a yogic attitude are reqired for certification.
If you need more study, there will be additional costs associated. Additional study will be assigned individually with each student based on his or her need. Although you will be asked to submit a video or audiotape of a class, there will be many variations on how the course of your continued study will be guided. Each student will be treated individually and therefore the method fo the mentoring and cost will vary. In general, the fee is $75/hour for mentoring. If you are asked to submit a video class, the cost will be $150 for one round. This includes an initial call, viewing the video, and the follow up mentoring call. (Although the fee is $75/hr and the total amount of hours of one round may take up to 4 hours, the student will only be charged $150 per round, barring any unforeseen circumstances). My staff or I will be assigned to be your mentor.
Anusara Name Use:
Once you complete all of your work and demonstrate that you have integrated the Anusara teachings, I will certify you as a Hatha Yoga teacher. You may then register with the National Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level. In order for you to use the Anusara name in your marketing and in your class titles, you need to apply for the "Anusara-Inspired" status on John Friend's website: www.anusara.com. There are a number of prerequisites to qualify. After receiving the Anusara-Inspired status, you may continue toward full Anusara certification as described on John's website.
Until you obtain the Anusara-Inspired status, you may not call yourself an Anusara teacher or Anusara-Inspired teacher. You may not advertise that you teaach Anusara nor can you use the Anusara name in any of your schedules, websites, or fliers except in your bio. You may include in your bio that you have studied Anusara Yoga with Todd Norian in his 200-hour teacher training.
Thank you for supporting these guidelines and for honoring the Anusara name. John Friend is deeply committed to upholding the highest level of standards and quality of yoga, which in the end supports us all.
